US Open 2020: Djokovic defends his victory over Struff

Jan-Lennard Struff has never won against Novak Djokovic in his previous five matches. And the German player continued to lose to Nole in the third round of the US Open, allowing his opponent to win quickly 3-0 (6-1, 6-1, 6-3).

Novak Djokovic had the easiest game since the US Open 2020 started when he only took 1 hour 45 minutes to defeat familiar rival Jan-Lennard Struff. The 30-year-old German also recently lost to Nole in Cincinnati at the end of August and to the US Open, he continues to be very quick.

Although he didn’t hold the serve well in this match, he only had 4 ace, making five double mistakes. However, the Serbian player defended very well in the service games when he successfully saved all 4/4 break-points and won the service absolutely.

Struff has twice as many ace as Nole, but the German is not defending scores well in service games. So he gave his opponent 11 break points and saved the game only five times. Having lost six breaks, Struff drove the sets fast and resulted in a remarkable victory for Nole.

Struff fiercely pursued Nole in the first set, but only to game 8. Failure to protect a break in the hinge game, the German player accepted to lose 3-6. Nole soon had an advantage in the second set with a break in the first game, then he got a break in game 9 to go on to win 6-3. In the third set, Struff defended only the first game he took to serve, then he lost five games in a row so that the opponent won 6-1.

5th seed Alexander Zverev continued his hard journey in the US Open with a 3-1 (6-7, 6-4, 6-2, 6-2) win over Adrian Mannarino. All three matches of the German player in the US Open 2020 ended with a score of 3-1, which also made him play for 2 hours 53 minutes. A rather tiring match for Zverev because he also had to play until 3 o’clock for the organizers to negotiate with New York health officials.

This was because Mannarino had close contact with colleague Bainot Paire, who had to withdraw from the US Open due to Covid-19 infection. New York City health officials let the French player play, but US state officials disagreed. The negotiations were proceeding urgently and the resulting Mannarino was still playing.
